Coupeville, one of the oldest towns in Washington, is steeped in indigenous heritage as the traditional land of the Lower Skagit, a Coast Salish people. The District lies within the boundaries of Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve. The Creative District showcases the community’s diverse talents and traditions, from indigenous crafts and storytelling to contemporary art forms. It is a place for ALL creatives to thrive and create.

What you will find in Coupeville

  • downtown district filled with 19th-century buildings overlooking Penn Cove
  • Pacific Northwest Art School with a national reputation
  • local restaurants and cafes that incorporate ingredients from the island’s fertile farmland and surrounding waters
  • galleries and businesses filled with work by local artisans

The Coupeville Creative District will focus on fostering creativity for all creatives with the development of the sʷədəbš Cultural Center, a project at the heart of the Beaver Tales Coffee vision and mission. This new space will serve as a gathering hub for all, providing opportunities for collaboration, storytelling, and artistic expression. At the heart of the project is the creation of an Indigenous Cultural Hub, dedicated to honoring and amplifying the rich traditions, art, and voices of Indigenous communities and collaborating with local creatives.
