ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Untitled (Park Series) is part of artist Carolyn Stephens' group of watercolors that depict imagined scenes in a park setting. Stephens composed this piece with the human figure only partially visible, allowing the viewer to "become aware of the abstract shapes and the pattern rather than of the images or narrative."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Orcas Island School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Carolyn Stephens is a Spokane, Washington-based artist and teacher. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Whitman College and her Master of Arts from Eastern Washington University in Cheney. She was a Fine Arts Instructor at Spokane Falls Community College for thirty-seven years from 1978 to 2015.
