ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Survival Flight is a composite photograph created by artist Gary Webernick. He composed it by collaging separate images onto a base photograph. He then copied this montage of images together into a single print. This photograph is part of his series of artworks that reflects a period of great personal struggle in the artist's life. He notes, "There is a desire to flee from the surrounding painful environment and oppression no matter how difficult the process... The cows represent the frustration, ambiguity, and confusion of the situation."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Grapeview School District.
