ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Cheryl Goldsleger based Exterior View on architectural drawings. She creates a sense of depth using isometric perspective. Isometric means "equal measure." In this technique, the objects appear three dimensional, but do not recede in space. She filled the composition with chairs, stairs, and walls. She notes that this piece points to underlying issues of "time, distance, and solitude."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with South Kitsap School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Cheryl Goldsleger is a Georgia-based artist. She currently serves as the Morris Eminent Scholar in Art for the Department of Art at Augusta University in Georgia. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Philadephia College of Art in 1971. She received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1975. She previously taught at the School of Art and Design at Georgia State University. Her works are held in many museum collections including the Brooklyn Museum and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York City.
