ABOUT THE ARTWORK
'Things Change-People Die' is a gestural and impressionistic interior scene painted by artist Stephen Hayes. Composed to highlight the distinct objects in the room, this piece contains elements significant to the artist and his wife. Hayes notes that the piece explores "the things we live with and how those things refer to the essence of a life which cannot ever be really contained."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Kent School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Portland, Oregon-based artist Stephen Hayes creates landscape and still-life paintings in an expressive and abstracted style. He graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison, and teaches art at Oregon State University.
