The imagery for artist Melvinita Hooper's Still Life Sheep, Chicken, Orange Cow is based on and inspired by the artist's collection of Mexican folk art. She notes that her paintings "develop a narrative quality. This is a subconscious process and is unexpected rather than preconceived."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Bethel School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Melvinita Hooper is painter. Of her art practice, Hooper notes, "I collect folkart and use much of it as a sources of inspiration. I like the clarity, directness and the fact the folkart is not contrived or meant to be 'art'." She currently lives in Mexico.
