ABOUT THE ARTWORK
CRUX (1) is the first piece in artist Jennifer Stabler-Holland’s series of paintings that use abstract imagery to express a critical moment or idea. This piece uses form and color to reference landscape and animal forms. It is a meditation on endangered species and the fragility of our ecosystems. The central image forms a cross, filled with animal-like bodies. She notes, “The whole piece is laid out symmetrically in order to emphasize the cross shape in the center; the ‘crux’ of the problem. Within us is the power to destroy and save the environment.”
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Central Kitsap School District.
