ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Military Images is an enamel mural created by artist John Killmaster for Camp Murray. He created the piece out of ten panels of steel. He painted on the imagery using of vitreous enamel, which he fired in a kiln in layers. He notes, "The images, beginning with the Minute Man, illustrate the major army uniform styles over the years. In the background various military gear and weapons demonstrate 200 years of military development."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Military Department.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Idaho-based artist John Killmaster creates paintings, ceramics, and enamel artworks. He served as a professor of art at Boise State University in Idaho from 1970 to 1997. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan in 1969. Killmaster was honored with the Idaho Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in 1978.
