Feather Star, 1978

Ali Baudoin
(American, born 1949)

Location: Everett Community College, Everett

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Ali Baudoin was inspired by the form of a type of marine crinoid – a flowerlike sea animal known as a feather star.

In 1987, this sculpture survived an arson on campus that destroyed Everett Community College's 40-year-old library and its collection of 48,000 books and periodicals. The artwork has since become a symbol of resiliency for the college.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Everett Community College.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ali Baudoin is a metal sculptor. His sculptures are located globally in public and private settings. Ali says of his work, “Illusion is the magic that activates the interest in a work of art. It allows us to slip from our realities into our own dreams. The space around the forms becomes a positive shape. This compounds the tension and sculptural movement of the form.”

Baudoin received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Sculpture from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Washington in Seattle.
