ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Donald Barrie created the figurative painting King of the World in an impressionistic style. He used gestural brushstrokes in many colors to create the composition. The young boy wears a pin that reads "aware." He stands on a bench carved with the name "Pelican Bay." He stands in front of a window display of whimsical and imagined sea creatures and birds.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Evergreen School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Realist painter and muralist Donald Barrie captures the subtle details and formal relationships found in city scenes and sweeping landscapes. A faculty member at Seattle Central College, and founder of the Pelican Bay Artists' Cooperative. Barrie lives and works in Seattle, Washington.
