ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artists Gale Simpson and Aristotle Georgiades created the installation From Here to There for Maple Lane School when it was part of Washington's Juvenile Rehabilitation program. The central metaphor of this sculptural installation is learning to find your path through the world. A large globe is set along a pathway of blue stepping-stones. The globe represents the world of possibility beyond Maple Lane School. The stones weaving around the globe and sidewalk lead to a "destination pole." The pole features hands pointing out in different directions towards goals such as happiness, reliance, pride, and wisdom. Together these elements represent our connection, our hopes for the future, and the power of personal growth.

Maple Lane School was formerly part of Washington's Juvenile Rehabilitation program. It now serves as a residential facility for offenders requiring mental health treatment.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Social and Health Services.
