Inner Landscape #5, 1998

Leah Kosh
(American, born 1937)

Location: Lincoln High School, Tacoma

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Leah Kosh created the painting Inner Landscape #5 . It is part of her series about our inner spirituality and the way we express our identity outwardly. She began the composition with the image of the bird as a symbol of spirit. She then painted a series of squares from the center to the outside as a kind of "shrine." She layered the squares with organic forms, images of human hands, and strings of glitter. She notes, "This series of paintings represents our attempt as humans to express our connectedness to all that is and our lifetime's challenge to recognize that we are neither separate nor alone."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Tacoma School District.
