ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Exactitude I is part of late Cuban artist Daniel Serra-Badué's body of black and white lithographs and colorful oil paintings. They were part of the exhibition "Themes and Variations" which showed in the Jersey City Museum, New Jersey, in 1988. These works focus on different subjects, including Architecture, Shopping Bags, and Musical Instruments.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Battle Ground School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Artist Daniel Serra-Badué (1914-1996) created surrealist graphic paintings, drawings, and prints.
Born in Cuba, Serra-Badué studied art at various studios and institutions in Santiago de Cuba and Havana (both in Cuba), New York City, and Barcelona, Spain. He was a recipient of two Guggenheim Fellowships in 1938 and 1939. Serra-Badué was one of the first recipients of a Cintas Fellowship, which supports Cuban arts and humanities.
