ABOUT THE ARTWORK

For Chet Baker is part of artist James Pink's group of paintings that use an artificial light source. This night landscape features illuminated billboard images among rolling hills. City lights in the background outline a valley below shadowed mountains. Pink notes, "This particular painting deals with my perception of Chet Baker who was a famous trumpet player in the world of Jazz. He lived a life of myth and legend and he appears in the painting as a Pan-like figure."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Valley School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Nevada-based artist James Pink creates narrative paintings, drawings, and prints. He has served as professor of art at the University of Oklahoma, Norman and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in education and a Master of Arts degree in art from Northern Illinois University. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of South Florida.
