August Light is bold abstract painting created by artist Dyan Rey. She notes, "Though most of my images have ambiguous references to the figure, still life, or nature, the underlying content has more to do with self-projection and energy, excess and control."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Ocosta School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

North Dakota-based artist and teacher Dyan Rey creates expressive paintings and collage artworks. She serves as an Art Instructor for Northland Community College in Minnesota. Born in Grand Forks, North Dakota she studied at the University of North Dakota. She later studied at San Francisco State College and at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, California. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of Oregon in Eugene in 1977. She has also studied at the Centrum Foundation in Port Angeles on the Olympic Peninsula, and Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Aspen, Colorado.
