ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Passage is part of photographer Brenda Hemsing's "Places" series that explore awe-inspiring locations and the feelings that motivate exploration. This image captures the road to Mount Baker in the Cascade Mountains of Washington state. Hemsing notes that she seeks "to express the vastness that is nature and to communicate the human need to connect to such spaces."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Skagit Valley College.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Brenda Hemsing is a contemporary photographer based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Many of her images are colored by hand.

Hemsing was born and grew up in rural Alberta, Canada. She studied journlism arts in Calgary, Alberta.
