ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Justen Ladda's Raft shows lumberjacks standing on a raft made of logs. An early 20th century photograph was the inspiration for the artwork. Ladda liked the photo because it looked like work that could also be fun. Timber rafting is a cheap way of transporting logs by tying them together to make rafts, which are then drifted or pulled downriver. This artwork is part of a series of site-specific installations by artist Justen Ladda for seven Department of Labor and Industries sites. The seven artworks are broadly inspired by labor and industry in Washington State.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Labor and Industries.
