Star Maps, 1988
Louise Kodis and David Glass
(American, born 1942)
Location: Emerald Heights Elementary, Silverdale
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Star Maps is a glass and fabric sculpture created by artist Louise Kodis in collaboration with glass artist David Glass. They set out to create an artwork that represents a map, but one made out of unusual materials. They note that this piece is part of a series of maps about "locations near and far, mostly imagined, not actual." They decided on the title because the layers of glass created air bubbles that resemble stars.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Central Kitsap School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Textile artist Louise Kodis and glass artist David Glass began collaborating in 1981 on glass and fabric sculptures. They note, "The collaborations offer us a way of working with familiar materials in new ways-and really recharge our creative batteries."
