ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Journal de Voyage: St. Guirec is a sculptural collage created by artist Corine Landrieu. It is part of a series of artworks inspired by travel diaries. The series documents her visits to sacred sites in Brittany and Dordogne, France. In each piece, she combines photographs mounted on rawhide with other organic elements. She notes, "In this piece the photograph represents a small stone edifice dedicated to Saint Guirec on a beach in a small town of Brittany. This saint had acquired the reputation of granting the wishes of maidens looking for husbands. They would put a needle in the nose of the statue; as a result Saint Guirec now has a hole for a nose. The text on the piece refers to this story."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Kennewick School District.
