ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Summer of Illusions is a three-panel painting created by artist Patricia Glander Martinez. It is part of her body of skyscapes that reflect on human perception. Each panel represents a different theme. The largest image shows multiple overlapping skies, like a sequence of days. This is meant to suggest experience. The thin middle canvas uses repeated images of clouds to represent the passage of time. The third canvas, with an inverted reflective image of a cloud, represents memory. The artist creates her compositions by first putting together collage studies using colored paper, photographs, fabric, and drawings. Describing her inspiration for this body of work, she notes, "I feel that the sky with its lack of limits and with its changing colors and forms is the most fascinating "object" that we can observe… I combined the feeling of certain sky scenarios, with other elements of my own inner concepts, to create a new situation -- a new vista of another reality."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Trout Lake School District.
