(American, born 1933, died 2016)
Location: Montesano Junior-Senior High School, Montesano
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I Know Where I Came From is a painting by late artist Leland Standley. He created the impressionistic landscape using gestural brushstrokes in many colors. He based the overlaid figure on his mother's silhouette. He notes, "The landscape implies the universe is doing its thing. The architectural space and the gesture of the figure going forward, especially the unfinished painting on the far right, implies there is still plenty to learn."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Montesano School District.
