ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Specimen Series - 2e. field notes: perspective, short is part of a series of paper constructions created by artist Carrie L. Larson. Featuring pins used to display insect specimens, this series plays with our ideas about documentation and the acquisition of knowledge. Larson asks, "When we scrutinize and categorize-be it objects, people, or art-do we risk limiting our knowledge, even as we seek a better understanding? If we peer too closely, focusing on minutiae, do we lose the broader view? How can we see, fully? In our drive to collect, to possess, to "pin down," what slips through our fingers?"

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with The Evergreen State College.
