ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Language of Science is a conceptual artwork by artist Laura Brodax comprised of hundreds of ceramic tiles installed throughout eight of the restrooms located in the Math and Sciences building. Discussing her inspiration, Brodax notes that these tiles "explore the Language of Science from each of the disciplines taught on corresponding floors: mathematics, geology, biology, and chemistry. All of the artwork depicting the math and science imagery was carefully thought out with the help and guidance of faculty and staff close to the project."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Seattle Central Community College.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Seattle-based artist Laura Brodax creates publicly-sited ceramic and mosaic installations that feature photographic and figurative imagery. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in ceramic art from the University of Washington in Seattle.
