ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Self-Portrait #5 is part of a series of hand-dyed quilts by artist Jeannette Meyer that feature rectangular forms layered with images of trees. She describes a tree in autumn with bare leaves as a metaphor for a woman at mid-life. She "my finery is gone but the strong and essential structure remains."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Tacoma School District.
