ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Borderland is a painting by artist Regina Loch-Elvert. A sketch she made while riding a train from New York City to Montreal (in Quebec, Canada) inspired the composition. She notes, "When the train came to a longer halt shortly before the Canadian border I saw these trees lined up in the distance on the horizon and standing out against the sky. The sky was cloudy almost predicting a near thunderstorm. The land between and the train and the line of trees on the horizon was a wide brown acre of farmland. I wanted to capture the lined up trees and the impression they made on me being in contrast to the sky behind them."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Federal Way School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Artist Regina Loch-Elvert creates abstract, expressive paintings derived from landscapes. Of her work, the artist writes "I am constantly searching while I am painting, trying to create a space that can be understood by itself, a visual order that creates a solution."
