Mountain Fountain, 2001
Hugh Webb
(American, born 1940)
Location: Darrington High/Middle School, Darrington
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Mountain Fountain is part of artist Hugh Webb's body of work inspired by the mountains and forests of the western landscape. Featuring a girl drinking from a fountain in the middle of the woods, this piece plays with what he calls the "straightforwardness of the landscape." He states, "From time to time, I might insert the image of a figure doing something enigmatic and/or humorous. While I make art seriously, I don't want people to take it too seriously. Incongruity has a lot to do with it."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Darrington School District.
