ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Find is comprised of assembled and stitched silk fabrics, handmade paper, and found objects. This piece is part of artist Marie Hassett's "Corvus" series. These pieces focus on the depiction of the common crow. She notes that she uses the crow in her work as "a creature of wisdom and strength often possessing magical powers. Animals are instrumental in the visual narratives I create in telling stories and the complexities of the human journey."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Vancouver School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Artist Marie Hassett creates artist quilts, art books and mixed media collage. Many of her works incorporate images of birds and the natural world while exploring narrative storytelling and symbolism. She lives in Olympia, Washington.
