ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Part of artist Katherine Holzknecht's series "Industrial Bouquets," comprised of mixed media wall sculptures, Amphora Moderna uses plastic tubing, wires, beads and glass to depict permanent and unfading flowers in a vase made from shaped aluminum. The vase was inspired by the amphora vessel used by Greek tradesman to carry olive oil and other goods.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Seattle School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Northwest artist Katherine Holzknecht creates artworks in cast cement, mixed material wall assemblage, watercolor paints, and stained glass.
Holzknecht earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts degree in Textile Design and Fiber Arts from the University of Washington in Seattle. She lives and works in Woodinville, Washington.
