The Neighborhood, 2001

Robert Calvo
(American, born 1949, died 2015)

Location: Centralia College, Centralia

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Neighborhood by Robert Calvo is a 960 square foot terrazzo floor located in the lobby of Washington Hall at Centralia College. Terrazzo is comprised of colorful marble, granite, quarts, and glass chips mixed together with cement. Calvo's design addresses the interconnectedness of small and large communities, as well as the student's personal journey toward a larger social contribution. The unifying design of the floor mural joins outlines of Lewis County and Washington State, a world map, and maps of planetary orbits and constellations. This design expresses the idea of extending outward intellectually, physically, and culturally.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Centralia College.
