ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Hugh Webb created the painting Jeffersonian Ideal by layering paint over a gold leaf background. It is part of a group of works inspired by the artist's travels in Montana, Oregon, and the Rocky Mountains. This piece features two separate landscapes joined into one composition. Mount Jefferson inspired the background mountain image, while the foreground depicts Hosmer Lake, both in Oregon. He notes, "The title is a sort of pun which addresses the idea of creating a perfect or ideal landscape."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Tacoma School District.
