ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Marie Hassett created the collage ‘Boy with Heart’ from handmade paper and fabric, layered with photographic images, quilted stitching, and found objects. It is part of a series of artworks created to tell stories about “the resourcefulness and creativity employed to survive and surmount life’s adversities.”

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Seattle School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Artist Marie Hassett creates artist quilts, art books and mixed media collage. Many of her works incorporate images of birds and the natural world while exploring narrative storytelling and symbolism. She lives in Olympia, Washington.
