Double Jump, 1999

Jane Burns
(American, born 1957)

Location: Bellingham High School, Bellingham

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Created as part of artist Jane Burns' series of paintings that feature twins, Double Jump depicts two figures holding hands while skipping rope. Play features largely in this series and acts as a metaphor for communication, imagination, and embracing different points of view. Burns notes that the "satisfying symmetry of cooperation that we learn in childhood and continue to use to enrich our experiences as we get older is also a source of inspiration for me."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Bellingham School District.
