(American, born 1952)

Location: Highland High School, Cowiche

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Anne Frank is part of Northwest textile artist Dale Gottlieb's series of "Story Rugs" which are inspired by history, literature, and multicultural folklore. This inspirational artwork features a quote from Anne Frank's diary: "I still believe in spite of everything, people are truly good at heart." It celebrates Anne Frank's perseverance and humanity in the face of Nazi oppression. Anne Frank was a young teenage girl who kept a diary documenting her life in hiding from 1942 to 1944, during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II. Her diary was published in 1947 as "The Diary of a Young Girl". The artwork was fabricated in collaboration with a Tibetan Buddhist family who produce rugs using traditional hand-knotting techniques.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Highland School District.
